Sam Merrill’s reaction to Donovan Mitchell attending massive party that Cavs role player wasn’t invited to

Cleveland Cavaliers sharpshooter Sam Merrill had a hilarious reaction to Donovan Mitchell attending Michael Rubin’s famous White Party this year.

Mitchell, who is one of the biggest names in the NBA, posted a series of photos from the party to his Instagram, and Merrill couldn’t resist trolling his teammate.

In Mitchell’s Instagram post, there are numerous athletes also pictured, including Dallas Cowboys star defender Micah Parsons, Los Angeles Clippers forward P.J. Tucker and Clippers center Mo Bamba.

While Merril may not have gotten an invite to the party, the Cavs sharpshooter certainly made a name for himself in the 2023-24 season.

The 28-year-old was a second-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, but he had a hard time finding consistent minutes in his first three NBA seasons, never playing more than 30 games in a single season.

However, Merrill broke through for the Cavs in the 2023-24 campaign, appearing in a career-high 61 games, making one start and averaging 17.5 minutes per contest. He displayed an impressive 3-point shooting stroke, hitting 40.4 percent of his 5.8 attempts per game from 3.

Merrill also set career-highs in points (8.0), rebounds (2.0) and assists (1.8) per game in the 2023-24 season. Additionally, he appeared in 10 playoff games for the Cavs and averaged 12.5 minutes per game.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, Mitchell — the squad’s top player — went down with an injury in the second round of the playoffs, and the team was eliminated by the Boston Celtics in five games.

Even with Merrill proving he belongs in the NBA, it still may not be enough for him to get exclusive party invites like Mitchell.

The Cavs superstar, who recently agreed to an extension with the franchise, is a five-time All-Star and made an All-NBA team during the 2022-23 season. He’s one of the best scorers in the NBA and averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from beyond the arc in the 2023-24 regular season.

It seems like Mitchell and Merrill have a great relationship, and Mitchell even showed love to his teammate during last season’s 3-Point Contest, wearing a jersey that said “Money Merrill” on it.

If Mitchell remains on the invite list for Rubin’s famous party, he might be able to pull some strings to get Merrill invited next summer.
