Report: Cavs Make Groundbreaking Hire With Latest Addition to Staff

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to forge ahead in their rebuilding effort and broke some new ground on Wednesday by hiring Lindsay Gottlieb as part of the staff for new head coach John Beilein.

She had been serving as head coach of the University of California-Berkeley’s women’s team.

Other than Gottlieb, the only other current female assistant in the NBA is San Antonio’s Becky Hammon. Last week, former WNBA star Swin Cash was added to the front office of the New Orleans Pelicans, who are run by former Cavs general manager David Griffin.

Gottlieb has served as California’s head coach for the past eight years, compiling a record of 179-89, with all but one of those teams reaching the NCAA tournament. In her seconds season in 2012-13, her team reached the Final Four, but lost in the title game to perennial powerhouse Connecticut.
