Report: David Nwaba likely to be on Cavs roster next season

According to a Cleveland Cavaliers insider, the team is likely to bring David Nwaba back for another year due to his restricted free agent status.

“Another interesting roster note,” Joe Vardon of The Athletic wrote. “Even though the Cavs signed David Nwaba to a one-year deal for the vet’s minimum last summer, he’s going to be a restricted free agent in July — which means the Cavs still basically control him. Because he’s only played three NBA seasons, the Cavs can make him a qualifying offer in late June, which gives them the opportunity to match any team’s offer sheet. So Nwaba, whose season has been marred by injuries, will probably be around next year, too.”

Nwaba has been a bright spot for the Cavs all season long, and it’s great to hear that he is likely to be brought back for another season.

Right now, he’s averaging 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds on 18.2 minutes per game. He has also excelled on the defensive end of the ball. While he missed over a month with a sprained left ankle, he got right back up to speed upon his return. He scored in double digits in two of his first three games back from injury.

Since then, his production has slowed a bit, but he’s still showing the dedication night in and night out to be considered a valuable member of the roster.

Sure, if another team comes out of nowhere that the Cavs deem too great to match, it’s possible he’ll be playing somewhere else. More often than not, however, it seems like Nwaba will be wearing the Wine and Gold for a while longer.
