Report: Cavs Will ‘Certainly Call’ Pelicans About Anthony Davis

New Orleans Pelicans star big man Anthony Davis has reportedly requested a trade, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to contact the Pelicans about possibly helping to facilitate a deal.

“Reality is the Cavs will certainly call the New Orleans Pelicans, as Davis has requested a trade,” writes Sam Amico of AmicoHoops.net.

The Cavs are willing to play a role in getting Davis to one of his preferred destinations as a third team in a potential blockbuster deal.

“Does that mean the Cavs shouldn’t bother calling the Pelicans? Not at all,” Amico wrote. “They could actually serve a real purpose here and find some major assets along the way.

“How?

“As a third team in a Davis trade, that’s how.

“Aside from the draft pick, and possibly [Kevin] Love, nothing or no one about the Cavs is untouchable. They like [Collin] Sexton. They like [Cedi] Osman. But if general manager Koby Altman can find a clear upgrade at any position, he will take it — provided the upgrade is a young player with loads of potential.”

It may seem like just a consolation prize for being involved in such a high-profile trade, but there is no doubt that the Cavs could get quite the haul for playing a role in moving Davis.

“The one thing the Cavs have that a lot of teams don’t is a willingness to move just about anyone to help facilitate a trade,” Amico continued “In return, all they want is some assets — whether it be more young players or first-round picks, or both.

“That is why the Cavs will indeed talk to the Pelicans. Granted, they won’t end up with Davis.

“But the Cavs could still walk away with someone or something really cool, and they know it.”

There are few things that are exciting or fun about being bottom feeders in the league, especially considering the fact that the Cavs were the class of the Eastern Conference for four straight seasons.

Still, it is hard not to get a little excited when thinking about the future potential of this team. That future will only get more exciting if the Cavs can get some more young talent or future draft picks in a three-team deal for Davis.
