Report: Cavs Sign Former Warriors Guard to 2-Year Offer Sheet

The Cleveland Cavaliers are continuing their search for promising young talent, and on Friday morning they signed Golden State Warriors free agent Patrick McCaw to a non-guaranteed, two-year, $6 million offer sheet.

McCaw averaged 4.0 points, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game last season before being sidelined for the last two months due to a bone bruise in his lower back. While he is still a raw player, his 6-foot-7 frame makes him an attractive prospect.

According to a report, the Warriors are waiting for the electronic arrival of the signed offer sheet before they decide whether or not they will match Cleveland’s offer.

With the new contract, McCaw will be set to make $3 million in each of the next two seasons, but the Cavs or Warriors will have the ability to waive him before Jan. 7 and not be liable for the rest of his salary.

It is unclear when Golden State will decide to match the Cavs’ offer and retain McCaw, or let him go. If he does come to Cleveland, it will be interesting to see him develop through the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
