Cavs Rumors: Alec Burks ‘Widely Expected’ to Be Traded Again This Season

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Alec Burks has played just two games for the Cavs since being acquired on Wednesday from the Utah Jazz for Kyle Korver. However, one report suggests that the veteran will be dealt again at some point prior to the February trade deadline.

Joe Vardon of The Athletic looked at various aspects of the Cavaliers’ Saturday night loss to the Toronto Raptors and offered this assessment regarding Burks’ future in Cleveland:

“Thing is, the [Jordan] Clarkson-Burks duo did manage to score, with Clarkson pouring in 18 points and Burks adding 13. [Larry] Drew played Clarkson, Burks and Rodney Hood the entire fourth quarter. [Collin] Sexton didn’t play at all in the final period. Burks is widely expected to be traded again this season because he’s on an expiring contract worth $11.5 million.”

In his two games as a member of the Cavs, Burks has played a total of 50 minutes, averaging 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. However, his shooting from the field has seen him connect on just 9-of-22 attempts, a rate of just 38 percent. On 3-pointers, he’s hit on just one of his seven shots.

Exactly what the Cavaliers can get in return for Burks is debatable, considering any team that trades for him will then have to deal with potentially losing the eight-year guard when free agency begins in July. The Cavaliers are looking for long-term solutions to their rebuilding, with the team currently struggling with a 4-18 record on the season.

The next opportunity for Burks and the Cavaliers to pick up a win will be on Monday night, when they travel to face the Brooklyn Nets.
