Collin Sexton Credits His Father for Improving Major Aspect of His Game

Collin Sexton is playing solid basketball right now. Since joining the starting lineup earlier this month, Sexton has put up stellar numbers.

Through the first month of the regular season, the rookie has averaged 12.0 points in 24.1 minutes. Over the last four games, however, he has averaged 18.8 points in 35.8 minutes.

Furthermore, Sexton’s field-goal and 3-point percentages have noticeably increased since the start of the season. In October, Sexton shot 42.2 percent from the field and a putrid 14.3 percent from downtown. This month, those percentages are currently at 45.3 and 69.2, respectively. No, that last number isn’t a typo.

When asked about his recent success, Sexton credited his dad, who worked with him on his jump shot.

“Yeah, I’ve been working on my three, especially during practice,” Sexton said. “My dad, he helped me correct certain things that I needed to improve on.”

Sexton’s father clearly understands how Sexton plays and how he shoots.

“He watches the games all the time and he knows how I make shots so it was easy for him to correct it,” Sexon said. “Nah, we got in the gym and we worked on it so I feel like I’m shooting a lot better.”

Sexton’s 69.2 3-point shooting percentage may not be sustainable throughout the course of the season, but there is no doubt that he has improved in all facets of his game since the season-opener. Displaying serious potential, Sexton is reminding us why the Cleveland Cavaliers were so high on him when he was drafted with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
