Just this season, James stated that he would love to form what is essentially a super team, just to be able to play with three of his closest friends in the league, namely Wade, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony.
And just as James has opted out of his contract in Cleveland in order to negotiate a pay raise, he indicated in this particular interview that he would be willing to take a pay cut in order to be able to play 82 games with that group of individuals.
“I really hope that, before our career is over, we can all play together. At least one, maybe one or two seasons — me, Melo, D-Wade, CP — we can get a year in,” said James. “I would actually take a pay cut to do that.”
Ever since his high school days, James has always indicated a desire to continually play and be with his best friends. Many on his management team were former teammates from Akron, and he remains close with each one of them.
On an NBA level, it’s clear that he has become close with Wade, Anthony and Paul, and would like nothing more than an opportunity to play elite basketball with his closest friends.
But if a super team is not possible, out of those three players, it is clear that James’ first choice would be a reunion with Wade.
And if you were wondering, James and Wade still talk all the time, and James would wield a considerable amount of influence over Wade in the recruiting area.
“I think we talk as much as you can ever talk to one of your best friends, whether it’s about basketball or it’s about Bronny and Bryce (James’ sons) and Zaire and Zion (Wade’s sons) and so on,” said Wade. “It’s what we do and what we’ve always done — even before we became teammates.”
