Report: Cavs Not Willing to Give Tristan Thompson Max, But Would Increase Offer

With news coming from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst that the Cleveland Cavaliers and Tristan Thompson did not come to an agreement over the weekend, the 24-year-old is expected to miss Monday’s media day with the Cavs.

“Cavs & Tristan Thompson did not come to a contract agreement over the weekend [and] he is not expected to be at [Monday’s] media day,” reported Windhorst, citing sources. “Neither Cavs or Thompson are framing situation as ‘hold out’ because he has until Thursday, which is Oct. 1, to sign $6.9M qualifying offer,” he added.

In addition, with the two sides continually pulling and tugging, it seems that the Cavaliers are willing to give a little leeway to Thompson and his agent per Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com.

“The Cavaliers view both of the offers the same: They aren’t interested. However, they are willing to up their five-year, $80-million offer, sources informed Northeast Ohio Media Group, but to what extent is unknown at this time,” said Haynes.

Thompson must decide in just a few days whether to accept his qualifying offer or not, as the Cavaliers on the other hand, must wisely time their next offer.
